The San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District (SGVMVCD) is privileged to work alongside dedicated partners who recognize the vital importance of public health and mosquito control. Their unwavering commitment to collaboration, education, and innovation is invaluable in our ongoing efforts to protect communities from vector-borne diseases. Public health is, at its core, a collective endeavor, and the recent award recipients exemplify the extraordinary results achievable when cities, leaders, and agencies unite toward a common goal. Their dedication to safeguarding communities from mosquito-borne diseases serves as a powerful inspiration to us all.

In a recent ceremony, SGVMVCD honored outstanding contributions to public health with three prestigious awards, showcasing the power of collaborative action and innovative outreach. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the City of Baldwin Park, the City of Monterey Park, and Trustee Jackie Doornik for their remarkable contributions. Together, we can continue to make a significant difference in safeguarding public health and ensuring a safer, healthier San Gabriel Valley.

Excellence in Engagement and Collaboration Award

The Excellence in Engagement and Collaboration Award was bestowed upon the City of Baldwin Park. Faced with a sudden dengue fever outbreak in 2024, Baldwin Park demonstrated exceptional proactive leadership. They forged strategic partnerships with SGVMVCD and Los Angeles County, ensuring rapid dissemination of critical information and the implementation of effective vector control measures. Notably, their collaboration extended to the Baldwin Park Police Department, facilitating vital property inspections to eliminate breeding sites. This comprehensive, multi-faceted approach, driven by dedicated city leadership, exemplifies the highest standards of public health stewardship

Excellence in Social Media Engagement Award

The City of Monterey Park received the Excellence in Social Media Engagement Award, recognizing their strategic and impactful use of digital platforms. Leveraging SGVMVCD's resources, Monterey Park skillfully translated complex public health messages into accessible and engaging content, significantly amplifying mosquito awareness and vector control efforts. Their innovative approach to social media outreach has transformed public health communication, creating a dynamic and interactive dialogue with the community

Distinguished Trustee Engagement Award

Additionally, Trustee Jackie Doornik was honored with the Distinguished Trustee Engagement Award for her unwavering commitment to community education and advocacy. Trustee Doornik's dedication extends far beyond her role on the SGVMVCD board. Her active participation in outreach events and her involvement in programs like EcoHealth's Train-the-Teacher initiative have empowered educators and strengthened community resilience. Her extensive civic engagement and professional background have further enriched her ability to foster meaningful connections and drive positive change.

These awards highlight the critical role of proactive engagement, innovative communication, and dedicated leadership in safeguarding public health.
