Empowering Improvement: Building Growth through Supportive Field Evaluations

Portrait of Marco Gaytan, Vector Control Specialist III, at the MVCAC conference.

Presented by Marco Gaytan at the 93rd Annual Mosquito and Vector Control Association of California (MVCAC) Conference in Oakland, CA.

Abstract:

Performance assessments are crucial for evaluating the effectiveness of vector control programs, but inconsistent evaluation processes can create ambiguity and hinder communication among staff. Without clear expectations, it becomes difficult to align individual tasks with organizational objectives, ultimately affecting program success and the prevention of vector-borne diseases. Additionally, the lack of standardized procedures may lead to unaddressed obstacles in the workflow, resulting in inefficiencies and increased errors.

In this presentation, we will discuss how implementing field evaluations of staff helps create a consistent framework that aligns employees with common goals, reduces ambiguity, and fosters collaboration. These assessments allow us to evaluate both individual effectiveness and existing procedures, providing valuable feedback for refining our operations. By continuously assessing staff performance and operational processes, we can enhance team functionality and strengthen our overall efforts to prevent vector-borne diseases. Additionally, recognizing outstanding contributions boosts morale and encourages continued high performance.
