Fourth Grade "Bio-Engineers: How Living Things Affect Their Physical Environment"
Fourth Grade Highlights
CA NGSS 4-ESS2-1. ESS2.E. Biogeology: Discussion of ecosystems and the different ways living organisms (including humans) affect their physical environment, either directly or indirectly.
What Students Learn: Like the wolves’ effect on the hydrology of their ecosystem in Yellowstone National Park, mosquitoes have, now and in the past, a tremendous impact on animal movements and on human activities through their biting and transmission of disease which can, in turn, have an impact on the physical environment. It was only after the implementation of effective mosquito control that the US was able to successfully complete the Panama Canal. Conclusion includes mosquito source identification, source reduction practices, and bite prevention information.
